In the Bleak Midwinter
It must be 25 years ago now. We had been working quite hard in our office on a complex and lengthy project. So coming up to the Christmas break we decided to down tools (or at least turn off the computers) and enjoy some food and chat around our desks.
Then I heard a voice begin to sing. It was a colleague I did not know very well. I certainly had no idea she could sing. Her voice was pure and strong. We listened entranced as she transformed a pleasant afternoon into something special and memorable.
In the Bleak Midwinter
Christina Rossetti, Gustav Holst
What can I give Him,
Poor as I am? —
If I were a Shepherd
I would bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man
I would do my part, —
Yet what I can I give Him, —
Give my heart.
Happy Christmas.
